To Friends & Fans of Dave Rothstein,
I want to thank you all for coming to Every Day Is Play: The Art of Dave Rothstein and celebrating the wonderful life of this beloved artist. Dave was kind, gentle, generous, hilarious, irreverent, and unforgettable—friend to most of us, and an insatiably curious and creative artist to all.
Now that the exhibition has come down, we’re distributing work from the show to visitors who requested art. If you received an email linking to this page, you have been selected to receive a print from the show. In most cases, this will be a digital print from Pivot Media or Hope & Feathers Framing, mounted on foam core by Hope & Feathers or Big Red Frame. A few of you will receive work framed under glass or on metal, which Dave created himself, often for a previous art show.
In many cases, I was able to match you with one of your choices—or if not a specific first choice, with a requested category like “any landscape” or “any donut miniature.” Certain works, like the shovel patterns and animals in sweaters, were extremely popular, so it wasn’t possible to give everyone exactly what they wanted. There were a large number of requests for art, and I did my best, with the limited amount of work available, to match people with a work they’ll like.
I hope each of you will hang Dave’s art in a place where you’ll see it regularly and remember him with fondness.

How to pick up your art
- All art from the show is at Hope & Feathers Framing, located at 238 Bridge Street in Northampton. Please check their website for hours before you go to pick up art. You don’t need to call for an appointment or arrange anything else in advance. Just provide your name at the frame shop, and they will find your work and give it to you. It’s that simple!
- There is no cost for this art. Dave’s work was meant to make people laugh and smile and to bring a bright moment to anyone who saw it. Instead of paying for the art, we suggest that you consider a donation, in whatever amount seems appropriate, to one of the nonprofits described in the blue shaded box.
Recommended Nonprofits
In Dave’s obituary, there were three nonprofits listed, where friends were encouraged to send gifts honoring Dave in lieu of flowers. All three have a focus on nature and animals. Recipients of art from this exhibition are still welcome to give to those worthy organizations.
Dave’s estate has decided that this time, as we distribute the art from his retrospective, it would be appropriate to benefit artists, Dave’s other great passion. Here are two Western Massachusetts based organizations that help two types of artists:
Assets for Artists
Recently spun off from MASSMoCA, Assets for Artists (A4A) helps established artists who are ready to make art their career. Since its founding in 2008, A4A has helped some 3600 people make the jump to career artists through professional development workshops and one-on-one coaching. The staff, board, advisors, and trainers at A4A are all themselves artists, who trust artists to know their own needs and design their own solutions.
Valley Creates
A program of the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, in partnership with Assets for Artists, Valley Creates supports arts organizations and individual artists with grants for specific projects to create or show art. Valley Creates focuses on the community where Dave lived, serving exclusively Hampshire, Franklin, and Hampden Counties.
